Harlem Holler Trio is comprised of Phil Salazar - fiddle, Randy Tico - electric/acoustic bass, and Hans Ottsen - guitar. The group began when a mutual friend, Chris Norman (now Chris Plasencia) hired Phil and me (Hans) to play her wedding. Phil wanted to play more jazz and I was interested in learning about old time and bluegrass music. The name, Harlem Holler, is in reference to both worlds - Harlem refers to the jazz element, Holler refers to the bluegrass element. Since Randy Tico joined the group a year ago, replacing another amazing bass player, Joe Martorena, the group really started to evolve. I'm so excited about the future of the Harlem Holler Trio. We recently had a mini-tour up to San Francisco where we played a most unusual venue indeed.
